What does the Local Food Walk look like
At 3 p.m., the group (minimum 4, maximum 10 people) will gather at Brionplein, Otrabanda’s famous square opposite the Handelskade. The Local Food Walk takes you through authentic Otrobanda, through the historic streets that certified city guide Jacqueline can also tell you all about.
Mamitas
During the Local Food Walk you will do 3 tastings; 3x you will enjoy truly local dishes, often made according to ancient (family) recipe. This indulgence will be made and served by the Mamitas, the ladies of the neighborhood who take pride in showcasing their culinary culture. To give you an idea, the Mamitas begin preparations 1 to 2 days prior to the Local Food Walk.
3 Tastings
Each of the 3 tastings are unique and while you enjoy the delicious food, guide Jacqueline will tell you a bit about the history of the dish and Curaçao cuisine. Each Local Food Walk is different: each time, the Mamitas choose dishes that fit the season and what is available in terms of natural ingredients.
Anything can be served: chicken and fish are common in the Curacao cuisine, but a delicious soup, a good piece of meat or a vegetarian dish will certainly be served regularly as well. And of course you can communicate certain dietary requirements, which will simply be taken into account.
In people’s homes
You can enjoy this in appropriate atmosphere. Not in a fancy restaurant styled tiptop for tourists, but the Mamitas just set your table cozily in a nice spot in the neighborhood. Under a beautiful tree, or at a Mamita’s house in the garden. This also makes it truly a beautiful, unique and authentic experience of Curacao cuisine. And also good to know: the Mamitas work environmentally consciously. No disposable plastic will be used.
By 6 p.m., the Local Food Walk ends in Kura Hulanda. Don’t worry, after the Local Food Walk there is really no need to dine anywhere, you will be able to enjoy a beautiful and unique experience with a full belly.
